Fangfang Qiao

Ice and Water’ earrings

Sponsored by Weston Beamor and C. W. Sellors

Fangfang’s winning piece consists of a series of platinum triangles which link together to create a stunning pair of earrings. A triangular piece in the centre of the platinum body links two triangle combinations, a structure which provides incredible flexibility and movement in the earring. Each triangle is made of platinum wire and laser welding is employed to join the triangles as a 3-dimensional combination. A green jade stone is set in the lower triangle and three additional stones are linked to the bottom of the triangle combinations by chain.

Fangfang’s inspiration for her earrings comes from a quote by British Poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley - 'If winter comes, can spring be far behind' - and her fascination with ice and water – two substances that are chemically the same but so physically different depending on the environment.

Fangfang has recently graduated from the school of jewellery BCU studying silversmithing and jewellery design. With a keen interest in jewellery design from an early age, she took an MA in jewellery design in China before her fascination with western culture brought her to England where she could continue her studying and add a different dimension to her work. Fangfang’s favourite work is designing fine jewellery and her plan now is to develop her career in both the English and Chinese markets.
